Wheel studs or wheel bolts are what hold the wheels onto the axle of the vehicle. The wheel is mounted onto these studs, and then lug nuts are used to secure them. This has been the standard means of attaching a wheel since the car was first invented.

Wheel studs come in several configurations. Depending on the type of car, there might be anywhere from 4-8 studs for each wheel. Knowing your particular configuration is extremely important when purchase a new set of wheels.

Aftermarket wheel studs can be purchased for many different vehicles. Many sports car owners will opt to use high-quality studs to compensate for the added torque the power of these engines can place on the wheels, especially during hard acceleration and braking. Off-roaders often replace the studs to reduce the likelihood of them breaking while far from a repair shop.
