Having the right combination of tires and wheels can have a significant impact on the overall riding characteristics of the vehicle. Large tires with small wheels, while ideal for off-road purposes can make the vehicle not only louder when it drives on pavement, but they can reduce its cornering abilities as well. Conversely, low-profile tires on large diameter wheels can be extremely detrimental when driving on dirt trails.

The right tires and wheels will depend on the type of driving you do most of the time. If your vehicle is primarily for off-road use, most people recommend a smaller steel wheel with larger off-road tires. The larger tires allow the vehicle to more easily navigate on rocky surfaces.

However, if your vehicle is primarily a street machine, a different set-up will be required. Most vehicles come with a good set of street wheels and tires from the manufacturer. But if you’re looking for a sportier handling vehicle, larger diameter wheels mounted with low-profile street tires is the way to go.
