Because a Jeep Wrangler is designed to be used off-road, Jeep Wrangler wheels need to be extremely durable. The rigors of off-road travel require wheels that can withstand the abuses of trail riding and rock crawling. Normal truck wheels are often insufficient for this kind of driving.

Most Jeep Wrangler wheels are made from steel, not aluminum. While aluminum wheels are great for small trucks and cars, they are not usually able to withstand the abuse common to driving a Jeep. Steel wheels offer a much higher degree of durability.

Jeep Wrangler wheels tend to be slightly smaller than one would imagine. This is to accommodate the larger tires required for off-road use. The smaller the wheel, the more room for a tire underneath the wheel well.
