If you’re looking for something to truly set your car, truck, or SUV apart from the pack, one of the most instantly recognizable upgrades you can install is a set of custom wheels. These wheels will look sharp and offer more bang for the buck than other modifications, such as a paint job. There is such a huge choice range in custom wheels that there’s bound to be something that suits your tastes. Whether you’re looking for a classic set of wheels, or something completely out of this world, there are wheels that go there.
One of the most exotic and innovative forms of custom wheels are LED wheels. They’re not much to look at when they’re off; just a solid black screen on your tire hub. But these wheels turn on in a huge way. The screens are programmable, and they can show just about any image you desire. Each wheel can even be set to display a different image. The images can be made to rotate with the tires, or remain stationary, even while your car is in motion. All this doesn’t come cheaply though. A set of LED wheels will set you back more than fourteen thousand dollars. For that you can buy an entire compact car! But if you want the most cutting edge technology, it never comes cheap.
There are other sets of custom wheels that are more affordable than LED wheels. There are thousands of custom wheel fabricators, and they specialize in different areas. Want wheels that match your paint job? There as shops that will do that, and for far less than it would take to paint your car to match your wheels.
A type of custom wheel that saw its debut in the early nineties is the spinner. A spinner is a multi-part wheel in which one part holds the tire, and another portion is attached to it via a bearing system. The bearings allow the freestanding portion of the wheel to spin independently of the rest of the assembly. The visual effect created by one portion of the wheel spinning at a different velocity than the other can be quite catchy. Spinners are another type of custom wheel that doesn’t come cheaply, sometimes costing a few thousand dollars. But again, for those that want the most eye catching wheels around, they will be worth the investment.
The majority of the custom wheel market, however, is more traditional than either spinners or LED wheels. They offer a different look for your vehicle that still remains quintessentially car-like, rather than something that looks like it was ripped from the script of a science fiction movie. They may have freely flowing designs, or nearly solid hubs. They may go retro with a myriad of spokes, or they may go modern with an open wheel design with just a few connecting pillars. The variety available is limited only by your imagination and your budget. So when you shop for custom wheels, remember that your imagination is your best friend.
