Black chrome wheels are a fairly new development because of the difficulty in producing black chrome. The finish has a shiny black pearl look and is very iridescent and shiny. They can range in color from a smoky black to shiny lamp black.

To make black chrome wheels a special process has to be used where pure chromium is applied to a surface by physical vapor deposition, in a vacuum metallization chamber and then protected with a liquid clear coat. It sounds as complicated as it is, but black chrome is actually higher quality than regular chrome, much higher actually.

Black chrome wheels are very resistant to rust and corrosion and don’t need any special cleaners like regular chrome. Simply wash the wheels with a mild solution of soap and water for the best shine. Chrome cleaners should not be used as they will take off the clear coat that protects the black chrome. These wheels are a bit pricey, but they are fairly unique and will definitely turn some heads.
