Truck rims, Chrome Wheels and Spinning Rims and a whole lot more.
Like a new pair of shoes flatters an outfit, new wheels can compliment
any car, new or old. Most people wouldn’t wear sneakers with
a crisp suit, and similarly people with nice cars keep their wheel
rims looking nice and many car owners get custom wheels to truly give
their ride personality. Most vehicles come with very cheap wheels,
the only styling is done with a hubcap. For anyone who really loves
their vehicle aftermarket wheels are one of the first parts that is
changed and upgraded.
Not all car wheels are created equal. Some have distinct advantages
and disadvantages. Steel wheels are the most common because they are
strong and cheap to manufacture. They can be painted or given a chrome
finish for a bright shine but the biggest problem they have is corrosion.
The finish can easily get pitted by road debris, brake dust and water
which encourage rust and can ruin any finish and eventually compromise
the strength of the rim. Chrome wheels should be cleaned weekly with
a mild cleaner to keep them looking their best and lengthening their
life.
Steel composite rims are made from two pieces, a steel rim and cast
aluminum center. This improves the strength of the wheel and allows
for interesting and unique styling on the inside of the wheel for
much less cost than cast aluminum and forged wheels. Cast aluminum
wheels are some of the most popular aftermarket wheels. They can be
made into many different styles, finishes and sizes and are much lighter
than steel while still remaining fairly inexpensive.
Alloy wheels are made from a mixture of metals, mostly aluminum or
magnesium. They can be made to withstand high loads which are important
for truck wheels and busses, as well as for racing cars. Racing wheels
are often magnesium alloys for incredibly light weight, increased
diameter and prettiness. Often called “mags” they are
a popular reference to the recent hip hop culture addition of unique
large shiny wheels. Some of the hottest designs are “spinners”
that keep spinning when the car is stopped, or can be locked into
place giving the appearance that the wheels are not moving when they
are. The moon walk for cars in a way.
Wheel designs are becoming more and more interesting everyday. There
are now wheels that have built in LED lights that are connected to
a program that calculates the rotation of the wheel and can display
a full color picture right on the wheels surface. It can show any
picture, from dollar signs, “call me ”messages, photographs,
the American flag, or literally any image imaginable. You are not
limited to one image either, each wheel can display different pictures
and rotate from picture to picture from a large database ensuring
that the images never get old. These wheels come in a variety of sizes
including the ever popular 20 inch wheels, but you probably won’t
find any discount wheels with features like these. Keeping the wheels
clean, no matter what type of material it is made from, will extend
the life of the rim and keep it looking great for years.
